← Praying the Psalms

Day 2 of 4 · Romans 8:26

You don't need the right words

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans."Romans 8:26

Some people freeze before they even start praying because they don't know where to begin, or what the "right" way to talk to God is. Paul writes exactly for that person: even the most mature Christians don't always know what to pray for.

And here comes the good part: you don't have to fix the sentence first. The Spirit takes what you couldn't even put into words and delivers it for you. The most sincere prayer, very often, isn't the best spoken one. It's the most honest one, even when you stumble.

To keep today

You don't need the right words.
The Spirit fills in what's missing.
