Day 24 of 30 · 1 Peter 5:7

Cast it on Him

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."1 Peter 5:7
Illustration for day 24, Cast it on Him: a scene inspired by 1 Peter 5:7

The verb is physical: "cast." Not "mention your anxiety to God" or "bring it up in prayer if there's time left." It's throwing. The gesture of someone who takes a weight off their back and hurls it somewhere else for good. A decided movement, not elegant, from someone who can't carry it anymore.

And look who signs the sentence: Peter. The one who sank in the sea for looking at the wave. The one who promised courage and denied Him three times in the same night. The one who wept bitterly and was restored beside a fire, with Jesus asking three times, "do you love me?" Peter understood anxiety, failure and starting over like few people. If HE says you can cast it, it's because he cast it. And the hand that caught it held.

The reason is at the end, and it's one of the simplest and most revolutionary lines in the Bible: "because he cares for you." You're not casting into a void. You're casting onto Someone who cares, personally, about what weighs on you. The weight you're carrying today always fit in His hands. We're the ones who insist on carrying it, out of pride, out of habit, or because we think we have to earn help.

Application with a gesture: write on a piece of paper, in one sentence, today's number one anxiety. Hold the paper, pray handing over exactly that, and then do something physical with it: crumple it, tear it, put it in a box. The body needs to take part in the casting for the heart to believe it. And when the mind tries to pick the weight back up (it will try), whisper: "it's already been cast."

To keep today

Anxiety isn't for carrying or hiding.
It's for casting, onto the One who cares.
